We will prevail

2021 was indeed a year of patience. We were all tired of enduring revolving lockdowns, quarantine measures, and not being able to visit those closest to us. Meet the new year, same as the old year.

That pretty much sums up the transition from 2021 to 2022. This time last year, we thought by now we’d have a handle on this viral pandemic, the likes of which we haven’t experienced since 1918. Given what we’d been through in 2020, we greeted 2021 with breathless anticipation.

When we entered 2021 COVID had already taken more than 1.8 million lives worldwide and more than 14,600 in this country. We couldn’t have conceived at the same time a year later the death total would top 5 million worldwide and 30,364 in Canada. In Ontario, we’ve surpassed 774,000 COVID cases and 10,252 deaths.

We thought with three vaccines approved for use, the days of COVID-19 were numbered.
