Here at home in Clarington, I continually get questioned about the lack of birds; in the forest, at the lake, along the roadsides and at private feeders. The question relates to “where are all the birds?” and stories of previous seasons or years persist. Well, sometimes the questions, and hence the answers are about timing. Late fall/early winter before any of the ‘winter finches’ arrive (and many years they don’t due to available food in the northern climes) and at the same time as when many summer residents have departed for points south is sometimes a slow period. Even ‘regular’ winter visitors are able to gather food from natural sources provided snow cover is not an obstacle.
