“It was Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific on parade. I thought then… that in those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation.” Brigadier General Alexander Ross, who commanded the 28th Northwest Battalion at Vimy, shared his thoughts about a fateful few days, that though it saw massive loss of Canadian lives, also resulted in a moment of national unity and nation-building.
