On September 21, 1921, a special ceremony took place on the vacant lot at the north-west corner of King and Mill Streets in Newcastle. Chester Massey and his family attended at the “Sod Turning” for the new Community Hall donated by Massey. The official sod turners were Lionel and Hart Massey, young sons of Vincent Massey and grandsons of Chester.
