The British Home Children arrived in Canada between 1869 and 1948. They arrived with the promise of leaving behind marginalized and impoverished conditions in the United Kingdom for a better life in Canada. Many took up residence as farm labourers. Clarington, being a largely rural, farming community saw many of the British Home Children relocated to local homes.
