By mid-February, 1944, all three of these Bowmanville lads were serving at their operational bases, Alex and Lorne newly arrived at Linton-on-Ouse, and Kenneth at Gransden Lodge since the previous since the previous August. Although the information is not readily available, by this time Kenneth would probably have flown on several missions. By now, nighttime bombing raids of the RAF Bomber Command were in full swing. Raids over Germany had initiated in 1940 and had escalated in intensity ever since. Prime targets were military bases, rail transportation hubs and the industrial capacity of the German war machine. And yes, included in this was the destruction of en-tire cities.
