Stray Feathers: Fisheries, plastics, and pollution threaten ocean wildlife

Throughout the world commercial fisheries and plastics in our oceans threaten wildlife populations to a staggering degree. It is estimated that over 100,000 marine mammals like whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions fall victim annually; that number also includes sea turtles. In addition, scientists estimate that upwards of 2 million seabirds die annually due to ingestion of plastics and entanglement with fishing nets and lines as well as plastic bags.
