New council ready to roll

That’s a wrap! Clarington has a new municipal council. The mayor and six councillors have been chosen to meet the challenges facing the Municipality of Clarington and its people for the next four years. Don’t like it? Didn’t vote? Don’t complain.

As a resident and business owner, thank you to everyone who had the courage to put their names forward as a candidate. Local municipalities depend on people who are willing to do the hard work of public service and represent the interests of their friends and neighbours. Regardless of the result, your ideas and energy strengthen our democratic process.

Upsets and shockers? Always high on my list is voter turnout. In 2018 voter turnout was appalling at 26.62 per cent. One of the municipality’s goals of switching to online and telephone voting was to increase this number. Unfortunately, it only attracted 1.38 per cent more voters
