Monarch Butterflies starting their journey to Mexico by way of SWNA

One of the best habitats for Monarch Butterflies is the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area, (SWNA) located in the southwest corner of New-castle, on the shores of Lake Ontario. For the past several years, the SWNA Management Advisory Committee, made up of volunteers, has been hosting a butterfly tagging event at the site during the peak migration period of the delicate creatures, which weigh in at less than a gram.
