High water at Newcastle marina ongoing concern

“When is the water level going to drop?” asks Alison Woollacott, manager of the Newcastle Marina for twenty-three years. As of August, she says, “We’re up three feet higher than normal for this time of year.” Pointing to the gazebo on the little island in the Graham Creek channel, she adds, “That was partially underwater this summer. The water has receded somewhat but is way higher than normal. The channel is usually only five-foot-deep so normally I don’t take boats over a five-foot draft because they’d be hitting bottom. Over the summer, I’ve had six-foot boats coming in here.”
