From the archives: D-Day

“What an exciting day it must have been on the water and in the air between the English and French coasts. Thousands of boats of all kinds and sizes used for protection and carrying the troops, while thousands roared overhead in an endeavour to blast the de-fences along the coast, helped by the British, Canadian and American navies, pouring thousands of tons of shells and bombs among the defenses of Hitler’s Fortified Europe,” pro-claimed an article in the Orono Times on June 8, 1944.
