As the editor and publisher of our beloved community newspaper, I’ve grown accustomed to the rhythm of our production schedule. Typically, Mondays are my desk work days. With the looming deadline for copy and photos, followed by the intense production day on Tuesday, with a press deadline at 3 p.m. It’s either a scramble to finalize or (gulp) find content. Statutory holidays rarely offer me the luxury of a day off.
With deadlines looming, this year Monday was a bit different. Instead of the usual desk work, I find myself on double duty: covering Canada Day festivities while simultaneously finalizing this week’s content. As exhausting as it might sound, it’s a labour of love, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Reflecting on the significance of this day, I’m reminded of just how lucky we are to live in Canada. Our country, with its vast landscapes, diverse cultures, and a strong sense of community, offers us freedoms and opportunities that many around the world can only dream of. And here I am, living my dream of owning and running a community newspaper, a venture that’s as challenging as it is rewarding.
