The Orono Santa Claus Committee once again presented the task to students at Orono Public School to design this year’s parade button. Molly McBride’s [in the pink] design was chosen. Molly is pictured with Shelly Rivers, committee chair, her brother Quin and sister Addison. Molly is going into grade 3 in the fall. A huge thank you to Jungle Cat World for donating the family day pass. Look for the big reveal of Molly’s design in October. The Orono Santa Claus Parade will travel down Main Street on November 23.

Last Friday was the first Kids’ Market of the summer at the Orono Farmers’ Market. George, Lillian and Charolotte Morawetz served up ice cold lemonade with the proceeds going to a local animal charity. The enterprising trio raised $200.00 for Team Chelsea Lost Pet Group.

Carol, Ron and Shirley Robinson were presented with the Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow-ship (PMJF) this past Friday evening at the Kendal Lions Club 20th Charter Anniversary celebration. The PMJF is given to a Lion who excels in promoting lionism. All three Robinsons are Charter Members.

Newtonville’s talented Angie Austin captivates the crowd at the second annual Kendal Country Fest – Mike Pollard and Friends, bringing music and community together raising funds to keep the Kendal Community Centre doors open. A big thank you from the Kendal Community Centre Board. The event brought in $4,600 to assist with paying bills and program expenses.

Bowmanville Rotary’s attempt at breaking the world record for the number of people dressed as storybook characters was dampened at this year’s Rockin’ Rotary Ribs & Brews. About 30 braved the rain and joined the fun on Sunday. The three winners were: First Place, Evelyn D’arcy, Cheshire Cat; Second Place, Lillie Cooke, Jack and the Beanstalk; and Third Place, Cheryl Berlinghoff, Queen of Hearts. Ribs & Brews is Bowmanville Rotary’s biggest fundraiser.

Orono resident Noah Lauzon took advantage of the fabulous weather on Saturday and spent some time at the skate board park located in the newly opened Newcastle Community Park. The park is located behind the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex at 1780 Rudell Road. Although the ball diamond and tennis/pickle ball courts officially opened this past weekend, the skate board park opened in 2022.

Sam Kent, Kent Farms; Naomi Morawetz, Naomi’s Homestead Market; Lindsay Vasseur, Wild Hearts Farmstead; Diana Stephenson, Skyblue Farm; and Lisa Filion, BETTER Tarts are looking forward to seeing everyone on June 14. Take note that the new market hours are 2-6 p.m. every Friday [except during the Orono Fair weekend] until October 11.

The Newcastle Gardening Club (formerly the Newcastle Horticultural Society) kicked off planting season with their annual plant sale. Maria Biscardi (left) brought flowers from her grandmother, Margery Freethy’s garden. Club president Sarah Powell was on hand with other volunteers, to answer questions about plants or about the NGC. The Newcastle Gardening Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at the Newcastle United Church.
