Camp 30 – Clarington’s Prisoner of War Camp

On Sunday, September 21, 1941 it was announced on the radio that the Dominion of Canada would be taking over the buildings and land of the Bowmanville Training School, with the intention of turning it into a Prisoner of War Camp for German officers interred in Canada. At the time, the Orono Times reported that it would give the people of Durham County a “better understanding of the people they have to fight against.”
