The dominant population in the early days was Scots Presbyterian. In 1834, 190 years ago, Presbyterians petitioned for a minister and church building. Early church services were held in a school house on King Street. Charles Bowman, for whom the town is named, donated the property at Church and Temperance Streets for the construction of a church building.
