This year, Brad Kelly, events coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Clarington, tells us of a different twist to their fundraising. This is an opportunity to have a little fun and help others, while still respecting the COVID protocols. He explains that in the past, the “usual expectation for the bowling event was $30,000.” This year will be different but will hopefully meet that goal and even surpass it. Up until last year, six fundraising events took place annually.

A couple of weeks ago I received a call from a subscriber, who is a senior who was upset with a post card she received in the mail. Quite certain that it was a scam, she was afraid that others could be taken especially during these trying times.
The post card was from a cash house buyer. You may have received the card or seen the signs around. ‘Interested in buying property in your area…for cash…no questions asked.’
Concerned that this was a money laundering scam, she immediately called the police who confirmed her suspicions and told her to ignore it – however, she was worried that someone might not.
